Thank you for your interest in joining the OAS Program. Follow these 6 steps to apply to the OAS Program.
STEP 1
Find a willing staff member (several are best), preferably a physical education or outdoor recreation instructor, to be the point of contact for the school and to teach archery in their classes or club program. You also need support from the school administration to allow archery to be part of the curriculum. The staff involved should read our Program Guidelines.
STEP 2
Identify potential range locations. A safe archery range can be setup either inside (like a gym) or outside on a large field depending on the surroundings. An OAS Representative can come to evaluate the range location. You will learn more about range setup in our Coach Education Program.
STEP 3
Fill out and submit the New School Information Form. Every faculty member that will be teaching the OAS Program at their school must fill out their own New School Information Form.
Your school’s eligibility for OAS is based on:
- 501(c)(3) status (The school must be eligible to receive tax deductable donations). Most public schools and government-run organizations are automatically eligible.
- The OAS program is intended for students between the ages of 10-18. Therefore, the school must have students in that age range. Under no circumstance should children 10 or younger use OAS equipment.
- School should have a student body of 150 or more between grades 5-12.
- School should have a safe and secure location to set up an archery range, and a dry, secure location to store OAS equipment. Proposed range and storage spaces may be inspected by an OAS agent before the delivery of equipment takes place.
STEP 4
If you school is eligible then the following must be completed:
1) Sign-up for our OAS Newsletter so that you stay up to date with OAS Announcements
2) Have your coach(es) complete our Online Education Program. The OAS Exam there should be printed out and filled in.
3) Your coach(es) should sign-up for a Practical Session with one of our OAS Representatives. Available sessions can be found in the calendar on our Online Education Program Page. The completed OAS Exam should be brought to this Practical Session
4) The OAS Equipment Agreement must be completed and faxed to our OAS Office before the Practical Session. Your coach(es) will receive a set of archery equipment for them to practice with so the agreement must be sent to us before then.
5) Please let us know if you are available to pick up all or some of your equipment during the Practical Session. All of the equipment can fit in a typical pick-up truck and includes targets, stands, and several boxes for the bows, arrows, etc.
STEP 5
Your coach(es) will attend their Practical Session. One set of equipment will be given to the coach(es) so that they can continue to practice (this set is specifically for the coach). This includes a bow for their size, arrows, safety equipment, training aids, etc. If the coach(es) have a truck and pass the course, then they can take all of their school’s equipment with them. If not they can either take some of it like the bows, arrows, and smaller items or have us ship all of it for them.
STEP 6
Once your program has started be sure to check our website for program updates and resources. The OAS Program offers a league for school competitions, an OAS Curriculum, additional archery courses for coaches, information for students, and many other useful resources.
