Inaugural Yankton Compound Academy Concludes at the NFAA Easton Archery Complex
The NFAA Easton Archery Complex concluded the inaugural Yankton Compound Academy. Archers came from across the region to receive four days of advanced archery instruction from multiple top-level coaches. Coaches included Eric Tollefson, Level 4 NTS Yankton, SD; Chris Hirsch, Level 3 NTS Yankton, SD; Robert Romero, Level 5 NTS Rio Rancho, NM; Chuck Cooley, NFAA Professional Archer Watkins Glen, NY; Mark Eggers, US Collegiate Archery Association 2013 Coach of the Year Norfolk, NE; and Frank Buck, Level 3 NTS Fort Collins, CO.
The Yankton Compound Academy was held at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Complex in Yankton, SD. The state-of-the-art 90m indoor range and FITA field allowed students to practice various skills at a variety of distances.
“The students made great improvements in their skills and discipline. Our coach to student ratio of 3:1 allowed for tailored instruction and huge improvements in form and technique. All of our students were excited to get to work each day, it’s great to see kids so excited to learn about archery,” praised NFAA President, Bruce Cull. “Our variety of indoor and outdoor facilities offers the perfect environment for all levels of archers to train year round.”
The goal of the Yankton Compound Academy is to prepare archers to succeed at all levels of archery competition. The Y.C.A. taught the participants how to prepare for tournaments both mentally and physically. Students learned National Training System shooting form and technique, how to build and execute goals, tournament preparation and received a personal video analysis of their skills to continue improving at home.
“The first Yankton Compound Academy was a tremendous success and learning experience for the both coaches and the archers,” commented Head Coach, Eric Tollefson. “We are already discussing ideas for our next Academies.”
“We look forward to expanding into a series of Academies, hosted throughout the year,” added Chris Hirsch, Community Coach. “We want archers of all ages and skill levels to train at our facility. It doesn’t matter if you want to compete at local shoots or at National and International competitions, we want to help all archers improve their skills.”
