The team at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center hit the ground running this new year, starting the year off prepping to assist at the National Field Archery Association’s Vegas Shoot at the end of January. 2016 marks the Vegas Shoot’s 50th Anniversary, and over 3,000 archers came to Las Vegas to compete.

Always eager to provide opportunities for our community members to participate in, we have created new archery events. Following the success of our holiday tournament series in the fall and winter of 2015, we have introduced a new event to our calendar: the Happy Hearts Valentine’s Challenge and Couple’s Shoot. The Happy Hearts Challenge is an archery shoot open to archers of all ages and skill levels to experience archery for the first time and/or test their skills and win prizes through a variety of archery courses. The Couple’s Shoot is in partnership with the local Minervas Bar & Grill to give couples a unique date package that includes open archery shooting and a gift card for the restaurant.

With such a large and varied facility, the Archery Center time after time proves itself a versatile space, hosting returning and new non-archery events. These events draw crowds from both the local and surrounding area. January 29-30th will bring the Dakota Territory Gun Collectors Association’s Annual Gun Show with an expected 200+ people in attendance. March will host the Lewis and Clark Home Builders Association’s Home Show. Wrapping up the spring, in April the Center will host a Cross Rock Productions Tschetter Memorial Concert.

Continuing our mission to be a resource for elite archery knowledge, the Archery Center has announced dates for the fourth annual Youth High Performance Compound Academy: August 3-6th. Also announced are the dates for the inaugural Adult High Performance Compound Academy: May 21-22nd. These academies aim to provide some of the best archery coaching to compound archers looking to improve their equipment, technique and competitive game. Refer to www.NEYAC.org for more information and updates.

April is looking to be a busy month for the Archery Center, when we will host some of the state and region’s largest archery events. Among these events includes a brand new event seeking to bring together youth archers in JOAD, NASP and 4H shooters: the Midwest Youth Archer Invitational, which is April 16th. April 2-3rd the Center will be host to the South Dakota State Indoor Championships. The NASP East River State Championships is April 9th, the US Collegiate Archery Association Outdoor Regional is April 23-24th, and the Yankton Hot Shot’s final indoor pin shoot is April 30th.
With so many avenues for participation, from community to state and national events, for skill levels from novice to competitive archers, we anticipate an exciting start to 2016.
